House and Barn Destroyed by Early Morning Fire

February 5, 2018

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a fire call this morning at approximately 4:15 at 5762 Vaughn Road in Hickory Flat.

Cherokee County 911 received a phone call from a resident who could see a building fully involved behind her house. Engine 23 was dispatched to the scene and arrived minutes later to find fire coming from 2 separate structures, a single story house and a neighboring barn. According to Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Shane Daniel, it is uncertain at this time as to which started first and if one fire was responsible for the other.

Reports coming into 911 indicated that there was a female inside the home, who was in her mid-60s, was able to get out without any injuries. The house was gutted by the fire and two vehicles, a truck and a vintage automobile in the carport were also destroyed. The barn was completely destroyed.

Vaughn Road was completely shut down with one lane being open around 7 o’clock. The American Red Cross responded to assist the resident. No other injuries are reported and Cherokee County Fire Investigators continue to look for a cause of the fires.
