House Fire on Frankline Gold Mine Road Injures Eight

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire last night, shortly after 11 o’clock at 1198 Franklin Gold Mine Road in northeastern Cherokee County near the Forsyth County line.

Cherokee County 911 received a call from a neighbor reporting that the house next door was on fire. Squad 4 from the Free Home Fire Station was the first to arrive on scene and reported that the one story wooden structure was fully involved.

According to Support Services Division Chief, Danny West, “The first arriving units encountered a heavily fire involved structure and multiple injured victims. A total of eight (8) victims were transported to hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Among those transported to the hospital included five (5) children and three (3) adults. They were treated for burns and smoke inhalation ranging from minor to critical injuries.”

Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Shane Daniel, stated that the cause of the fire was undetermined at this time, but the investigation continues.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Firefighters from Forsyth County, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office and Central Ambulance also responded and assisted in the call.
