Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire Friday afternoon at approximately 5:15 to 301 Henry Scott Road, off East Cherokee Drive, south of Ball Ground.
The resident of the house, a 77 year old woman who was confined to a wheelchair, found the fire in a room that was a porch at one time and has since been closed in. She immediately called her daughter-in-law, who lived next door, to report the fire. The daughter-in-law went to the house and got her mother-in-law out and then returned to attempt to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher while her son called 911. She also reported that she was unable to put the fire out as flames were already climbing the wall.
Squad 4 was the first on scene and reported smoke showing from the one story structure. Firefighters worked to get the fire under control. However, the house received significant fire, smoke and water damage.
There were no injuries reported and Henry Scott Road was closed until the fire operation was completed. Cherokee County Fire Investigators continue to look for a cause of this afternoon’s fire.
