Cherokee County Firefighters Pay Tribute to Mother of Former Fire Chief

February 28, 2019

Numerous Cherokee County firefighters paid tribute today to the mother of a former fire chief of Cherokee County who recently passed away.

Faye Gunnin, mother of former Cherokee County Fire Chief and current Cherokee County Commissioner, Raymond Gunnin, passed away last Wednesday, February 24th, at her home in Woodstock.  Funeral services for Mrs. Gunnin were held last Thursday at Antioch Christian Church. Due to scheduling at the Georgia National Cemetery, Gunnin’s burial was not held until today.

Numerous Cherokee County firefighters stood in the rain along the procession route to pay tribute to Mrs. Gunnin today. Her son Raymond worked in the fire department for 32 years and was selected to be the Fire Chief for Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services in 2006.  He later retired from the fire department in 2011 and was later elected as Cherokee County Commissioner for District 2.

Mrs. Gunnin was loved by everyone who came to know her and will be deeply missed. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 60 years, Earl Gunnin; children, Raymond Gunnin (Cindy) and Becky Gunnin; two grandchildren, Alisha Talley (Seth) and Noah Gunnin; and one great-grandson, Brayden Talley.
