Cherokee County Firefighters traveled to Station 23, located on Vaughn Road in the Hickory Flat community, to learn more about Water Rescue Operations.
Battalion Chief Ricky Collett, who is also a member of the Cherokee County Fire Dive Team, was the instructor for the class. The Dive Team is made up of firefighters who are specially trained to perform rescue dive missions across Cherokee County and surrounding communities in northern Georgia.
Firefighters were taught on several topics including incident management and how to conduct a size-up and hazard assessment and how to assess resource and equipment needs. Firefighters were also taught about the different type of water incidents like still or moving water or even swift water, too.
About sixteen firefighters were participating in today’s course that took about half of the day in which to complete.
