Land was being cleared on property on Highway 140 that will be the home of a new fire station. The new facility will replace the old North Canton Volunteer Fire Department which was built by local volunteers years ago around 1973, but was never intended to house full-time firefighters.
The new building will have 3 bays and will also have a kitchen, dining room and a day room. The building will be 11,631 square foot in size and will sit on approximately 11 acres. There will be enough space to house as many as twelve firefighters at one time. According to Division Chief, Dean Floyd, the footings for the new station should be started in the next couple of weeks and actual construction should begin by October.
The new station, which will be located across the road for the old Fire Station 9, will also provide safer living conditions and will allow firefighters to have a quicker response to emergency incidents. The new station is scheduled to be open sometime next spring.
