Midnight Fire Destroys Home

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire last night, just shortly after midnight, at 1445 Bart Manous Road in Hickory Flat. 

Cherokee County 911 received a call stating that his back porch was on fire.  Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes to find flames coming from the one-story structure.  According to Sean Borden, a resident of the home, “I was asleep and I woke up and I went out into the hallway and there was fire in the back room.”  Borden and his fiancée were inside the house at the time and were able to get out of the burning structure.  Borden also stated that they had two dogs inside of the home.  One of the dogs, a pit bull mix, perished in the fire.  

The structure, which sat on a basement, had severe fire, smoke and water damage.  A white Toyota RAV 4 SUV and a black Toyota Tacoma Truck were also destroyed by the fire.

The residents had minor injuries and were also treated for smoke inhalation. Both lanes of Bart Manous Road were shut down until the fire operation was complete.  The cause of the fireis still under investigation.
