Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire this morning at approximately 2 o’clock this morning at 119 Silver Creek Drive, off Highway 108, near Waleska.

Cherokee County 911 received a call stating that their front porch was on fire from their 0ne-story house.  According to Battalion Chief, Ricky Collett, “The fire was discovered by a 10-year old boy who woke up to what he believed was the sound of fireworks.  He looked out of his bedroom window and observed the front porch and roofline heavily involved in fire.  He woke his family and all evacuated safely.”  The family consisted of a family of four, a husband, Adam Knight, and wife, Clare, and 2 children, a 10-year old boy, Zizo and an 18-month old boy, Khalid.

According to Mr. Knight, the roof of the structure fell in not long after his family got out of the house.

The house received extensive damage and the American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.  Mutual aid was also provided by Pickens County Fire Department.  The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
