Groundbreaking Ceremony Held for New Fire Station 13

CCFES held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Fire Station 13 in the Sutallee Community Monday, December 5th. The new station will be located at the intersection of Knox Bridge Highway and Ficklen Church Way in western Cherokee County.
 
Cherokee County Fire Lieutenant, Michael Sims, welcomed everyone and thanked attendees for coming and for supporting this endeavor. Sims invited Fire Chaplain Tom Johnson to the podium to provide an invocation. Sims asked Eddie Robinson Fire Chief for CCFES, to come to the podium. Robinson talked about the features of the new station which will include individual bunk rooms and restrooms, a turnout gear room, physical fitness room, an open kitchen and day room area, a community room for the public to use, and much more. Robinson thanked those that were involved in the design of the station and shared his appreciation for the County Manager, Geoff Morton, and County Board of Commissioners who have been very supportive of the fire department as it continues to grow. Chief Robinson invited Commissioner Benny Carter to the podium to say a few words. He was followed by Matt Pardon, architect for KRH Architects, and Steve Cooper, President of Cooper & Co. General Contractors. After the speeches, the official groundbreaking ceremony was held followed by light refreshments.
 
The new Station 13 will be 13,042 square feet. The station was designed by KRH Architect out of Dalton, Georgia and will be constructed by Cooper & Company General Contractors out of Cumming, Georgia.
 
The new station is scheduled to open in November of 2023.
