Firefighters from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) and neighboring departments gathered at Fire Station 32 this morning to welcome Lt. Dave Burnaugh back to his station for the first time in 10 months.
Burnaugh, a 16-year veteran with CCFES, was rushed to the hospital last year while on-duty due to a sudden onset of illness. Doctors would later diagnose him with a stage 3 astrocytoma brain tumor and a stage 1 kidney tumor. His treatment included surgery on the brain, thirty rounds of radiation, kidney surgery, and chemotherapy treatment.
Firefighters surprised Lt. Burnaugh this morning as he arrived at Station 32 and provided a warm welcome, breakfast, and fellowship.
The members of CCFES are ecstatic that Lt. Burnaugh is healthy and honored to have him in our ranks.
