Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to a residential structure fire Monday on Yellow Creek Road near the Pickens County line. The call was dispatched around 2:30 p.m. and units responded from fire stations 15, 21, 5, 4, 6, 9, and 20. Initial calls to E-911 reported that smoke was coming from the residence and fire was spreading into the woods.

Engine 15 arrived on-scene to find a residential structure with fire in the rear of the home. Brush and grass surrounding the home were also on fire. Firefighters quickly deployed hose lines while performing a search for victims. The fire in the home was rapidly extinguished, saving the structure from extensive damage. The brush and grass fires were extinguished, and firefighters used fire rakes to dig a break around the perimeter of the fire. Firefighters overhauled the structure and removed smoke from the home before turning it back over to the residents.

Yellow Creek Road was closed for about an hour due to the fire hydrant being located across the street from the address, causing fire hose to be laid across the roadway.

No injuries were reported, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
