Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to a vehicle fire Monday at the Valero gas station near the intersection of Reinhardt College Parkway and Fincher Road in Waleska.
The call was dispatched just before 3:30 p.m. and units responded from fire stations 12, 17, and 11. Engine 12 arrived on-scene to find a passenger van fully involved with fire extending to the canopy and fuel pumps. Firefighters deployed hose lines to extinguish the fire while ensuring the emergency stop switch for the pumps had been activated.
The fire was quickly extinguished, and property overhauled. A ladder truck was used to check the top of the canopy for damage and hot spots.
All gas pumps are shut down for the time being, but the store remains open. No injuries were reported, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
