Firefighters were dispatched just before noon today to a vehicle fire on Northside Cherokee Blvd. in front of Northside Hospital - Cherokee. Firefighters arrived to find a 2010 BMW sedan on fire in the southbound lanes of Northside Cherokee Blvd. Both southbound lanes and one northbound lane of Northside Cherokee Blvd. were closed while firefighters extinguished the fire.
One occupant was inside the vehicle when the fire began but was able to escape without injury thanks to the help of another driver nearby.
Canton Police Department and Cherokee Sheriff's Office responded to the scene to assist with traffic control. Access to the hospital remained open throughout the incident.
As of 1:05 p.m. on February 1st, one southbound lane remained closed as wrecker crews work to clear the scene of remaining debris. All other lanes are open.
