Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) presented twenty firefighters with the EMS Lifesaver Award at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex Tuesday night. These awards were a result of the response to four different incidents where firefighters worked together to save the lives of patients that were in cardiac arrest.
The first EMS Lifesaver Award was presented to Nathan Roper, Terrell Long, Eddie Barajas, and Paul Riberio. On this incident firefighters responded to an unresponsive person with agonal respirations. They initiated life saving measures and played an instrumental role in ultimately saving the patient’s life.
The second EMS Lifesaver Award was presented to Randy Fifield, Adam Elrod, Jacob Christian, Chase Scoggins, Michael Turberville, Heath Weekly, and Geral Wright. These members responded to a person that did not have a pulse and was not breathing. Due to their quick thinking, immediate action, and proper treatment, spontaneous circulation returned before the patient was transported to the hospital. Before the firefighters left the hospital, the patient was awake and able to thank the firefighters for saving his life.
The third EMS Lifesaver Award was presented to Nathan Roper, Terrell Long, Chris Buckner, and Evan Halik. These firefighters responded to a patient that stopped breathing. They implemented life saving measures and played an instrumental role in ultimately saving the patient’s life. The patient began breathing on their own and regained consciousness while en-route to the hospital and has made a full recovery.
The final EMS Lifesaver Award was presented to Neal Caywood, Jacob Franklin, Joseph Gates, Samuel Lackender, and London McQuillen. These firefighters responded to a medical office for a patient having a seizure followed by cardiac arrest prior to our members arriving at the patient. Thanks to the great treatment this synergistic team provided, the patient regained a pulse while in their care and was transported to the hospital, later being discharged after recovery.
The recipients’ performance of our mission is in keeping with the finest traditions of the American fire service and reflects greatly upon themselves and Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services. We are proud to have them serving in our ranks and are grateful for the service they provide to CCFES and the citizens of Cherokee County.
