Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) and City of Woodstock Fire & Rescue (WFR) responded to a multi-family residential structure fire just after 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Firefighters arrived on-scene to find flames and smoke coming from the roof and multiple apartment units. Crews worked aggressively to make an interior attack on the fire while searching each apartment unit for victims. Additional firefighters were called to the scene, resulting in a 3-alarm fire response.

No victims were located in the structure, but several animals were found, removed, and tended to. No injuries were reported by the public. One firefighter sustained minor injuries from a collapse that took place.

The fire took place in building 701 at Brooke Mill Apartments located on Downsby Lane near Woodstock. Building 701 consists of over 30 residential units.

American Red Cross was called to the scene to assist families impacted by the fire. Fire victims who have not made contact with American Red Cross are encouraged to call them at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

Forsyth County Fire Department and Cobb County Fire & Emergency Services provided mutual aide, assisting in staffing four Cherokee County fire stations so that response to other emergencies wouldn’t be impacted.

Fire investigators from CCFES responded to the scene Sunday afternoon. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Downsby Lane was closed at Addison Way for approximately 4 hours while firefighters worked on the scene. Cherokee Sheriff’s Office aided with blocking the road and controlling traffic.
