Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to two reported structure fires this evening in the area of Riverstone Pkwy. in the City of Canton.
The first occurred at the Blue Ridge Apartments on Tiffany Lane.The call was dispatched just before 6:00 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from one unit. Firefighters made entry and performed a search of the apartment where they located and removed one adult male from the structure. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, keeping the fire incident contained to the one unit. The male that was removed from the structure was pronounced dead on-scene. No other occupants were displaced from this incident.
The second incident occurred at the Canton Mill Loft Apartments on Riverstone Parkway. This incident was dispatched at 7:00 PM. When firefighters arrived on-scene they found minimal fire damage that occurred inside of one apartment unit. The fire was controlled and extinguished by the sprinkler system prior to the firefighters arrival. The building received significant water damage to subsequent units below the unit where the fire occurred.
The cause of both fires remains under investigation however, preliminary findings do not indicate that there is any relation between the two incidents.
