Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) celebrated the remarkable achievements of 39 dedicated firefighters during an awards ceremony held on Thursday evening at the Cherokee County Fire Training Complex. This event was part of CCFES's Awards & Recognition program, which was launched last year to acknowledge exceptional service within the department.
The awards were presented in recognition of the heroic responses of these individuals to five significant incidents over the past several years.
The ceremony commenced with a Unit Citation awarded to Jordan Allred, Alex Henderson, Chad Huff, Nevin O’Hearn, Adam Elrod, Edward Parker, Tim Stover, Chris George, David Webb, Mark Alexander, Heath Weekly, James Gravitt, Austin Owen, Shannon Gibbs, and Ryan McElwee. These firefighters were honored for their exemplary decision-making during a mass-casualty incident.
Another Unit Citation was given to Matt Armstrong, Brandon Barton, Deombre Jones, Sam Lackender, Jamie McCord, Chris Roberts, Ethan Sanders, Nick Spain, and Ross Young for their remarkable response to a motor vehicle accident involving a critically injured patient trapped in a stormwater drain. Their swift actions and effective management of the situation ultimately saved the patient’s life.
Unit Citations were also awarded to Jordan Allred, Edward Parker, Austin Wyatt, and Reece Young for their prompt response to a mother experiencing complications during premature labor. Their rapid assessment, quick transport, and exceptional patient care resulted in a successful outcome for both the mother and child.
Additionally, Holt Bambarger, Jacob Christian, Corey Deal, Richard Jordan, Ethan Sanders, and Michael Thomas received Unit Citations for their decisive actions in providing care to a young patient with traumatic injuries after being struck by a vehicle, ultimately saving the child's life.
The final Unit Citation was presented to Alissa Whetstone, Chris George, Jeffery Garrett, Justin Libby, and Tyler Morgan, who contributed to the rescue of a victim trapped in a house fire.
The outstanding performance of these dedicated firefighters exemplifies the highest standards of the American fire service and reflects positively on both themselves and CCFES. Their actions highlight an unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of the citizens of Cherokee County.
Following the awards, Fire Chief Eddie Robinson invited Fire Chaplain David Price to lead a prayer for members of the fire family who have recently faced loss, trauma, and health challenges.
We take immense pride in having such extraordinary individuals in our ranks and express our heartfelt gratitude for their selfless service to both CCFES and the community.
