Canton, GA — On Monday, just before 4:00 PM, Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to reports of a fire and explosion at Carmichael Development on Univeter Rd. in Canton. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a dump truck and Conex trailer engulfed in flames, along with flame impingement to the exterior of a commercial structure.

Two individuals at the scene presented with varying degrees of burn injuries and were promptly transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. Firefighters quickly initiated efforts to extinguish the fire and conducted a thorough search for any additional victims. Fortunately, no further patients were found.

The fire has been successfully extinguished; however, firefighters are currently managing a significant amount of diesel fuel that has spilled onto the ground. The CCFES Hazardous Materials team is en route to assist with mitigation efforts.

Fire investigators are on site working to determine the cause of the fire. Univeter Road remains closed in both directions from Chattin Drive to Jesse McCollum Road as emergency personnel continue their work.
