Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) is excited to announce the launch of its second Citizen’s Fire Academy, set to take place this spring. The 12-week program, which begins March 6, 2025, offers residents, college students, and business owners in Cherokee County the opportunity to engage with CCFES and gain a deeper understanding of fire and emergency services.
The Citizen’s Fire Academy is designed to foster stronger relationships between the department and the community. Participants will learn about the services CCFES provides, receive important fire and life safety education, and gain hands-on experience through simulated firefighting and emergency medical services scenarios. Additionally, they will get a behind-the-scenes look at life and work at the fire station.
“The Citizen’s Fire Academy offers an invaluable opportunity for community members to engage directly with our department,” said Cherokee County Fire Chief Eddie Robinson. “This program helps build understanding and trust, and it equips participants with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe in emergency situations. Our goal is to continue strengthening the partnership between CCFES and the people we serve.”
The Citizen’s Fire Academy is a free program, open to all residents, college students, and business owners who live or work in Cherokee County. The program will run on Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., from March 6 to May 29, 2025 (with no class on April 3, 2025). Participants must be at least 18 years old and pass a background check to enroll.
Applications are now available on the Citizen’s Fire Academy page at CherokeeCountyFire.com. The deadline to apply is February 7th.
