Outdoor Burn Ban Takes Effect on May 1st

As temperatures rise, so do concerns about outdoor fires. Each summer, an outdoor burn ban is implemented by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division in 54 Georgia counties, including Cherokee County, to reduce air pollution and prevent wildfires. The 2025 burn ban will take effect on May 1, 2025, and remain in place until September 30, 2025.

During this period, the burning of yard debris and land-clearing materials is strictly prohibited. Residents are reminded that the burning of household garbage is never allowed in Georgia, regardless of the season.

Outdoor burning safety should always be a priority. If you are conducting any type of permissible burning outside of the burn ban period, please remember that you are responsible for your fire and the smoke it produces. Uncontrolled fires can spread rapidly, endangering lives and property.

If you suspect illegal burning in your area, you are urged to take action by calling 911 or the Cherokee County E-911 non-emergency number at 678-493-4080 to report the issue. A fire engine will be dispatched to the location for investigation and fire control if necessary.
