Celebrating the Retirement of Lieutenant Steve Smith After 40 Years of Service

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) recently celebrated the retirement of Lieutenant Steve Smith, honoring his exceptional 40-year career dedicated to the safety and well-being of the citizens and visitors of Cherokee County. A special breakfast was held Friday at Cherokee County Fire Station 12 in Waleska, where family, friends, and fellow firefighters gathered to pay tribute to Lt. Smith’s remarkable career.

Lt. Smith began his service as a volunteer firefighter at the Little River Fire Department, now known as CCFES Fire Station 7. Throughout his four decades of service, Lt. Smith was instrumental in saving countless lives and protecting property, always going above and beyond to ensure the safety of the community.

During the retirement event, Fire Chief Eddie Robinson presented Lt. Smith with a Helmet Plaque and a fire axe, which serve as a heartfelt tribute to his unwavering dedication and service to the department and the people of Cherokee County.

As a final gesture of appreciation for his distinguished career, Lt. Smith was given a ride home in Engine 17—the very apparatus he spent the final years of his career working on—marking the end of a storied and impactful journey.

The members of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services extend their sincere congratulations to Lt. Smith and wish him a long, happy, and well-deserved retirement.
