Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded to a structure fire just before 9:00 p.m. on Thursday night, April 10, on Red Gate Lakes Drive near the Free Home community.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered smoke and flames coming from a home. Crews acted quickly, deploying hose lines and initiating an aggressive interior fire attack. Simultaneously, firefighters conducted a search of the home and assisted residents safely out of the structure.
Thanks to the swift actions of the responding firefighters, the fire was brought under control in a short period of time. Red Gate Lakes Drive was temporarily closed to through traffic to allow emergency crews to safely operate, but the roadway has since been fully reopened.
No injuries were reported during the incident, either to civilians or to emergency personnel.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. However, early indications suggest the blaze may have been sparked by a lightning strike associated with the storm system that moved through the area overnight.
