Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) proudly announces the retirement of Lieutenant Michael Priest, Plans Examiner for the Fire Marshal’s Office, following an extraordinary 32 years of devoted service to the citizens of Cherokee County.

Lt. Priest was honored Friday afternoon during a luncheon at the Cherokee County Conference Center at the Bluffs. The event gathered friends, family, and both current and retired members of the fire service to celebrate Lt. Priest’s many contributions, share stories, and reflect on the legacy he leaves behind. Laughter, gratitude, and fond memories filled the room as attendees paid tribute to a career marked by dedication, professionalism, and a deep commitment to public service.

At the conclusion of the luncheon, Deputy Chief Dean Floyd and Division Chief Chad Arp presented Lt. Priest with a commemorative helmet plaque and a ceremonial fire axe—symbolic gifts representing the profound respect and appreciation held for him by his colleagues and the department. These meaningful tokens serve as reminders of the significant and lasting impact Lt. Priest has had throughout his career.

Following the celebration, Lt. Priest was given a special final ride aboard Engine 19—a sentimental and symbolic farewell. Engine 19 holds particular significance, as it was once stationed in a firehouse that previously served as the home to Lt. Priest’s great-grandfather. It was also one of the many places where he made lasting memories throughout his decades of service.

The entire Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services family extends its deepest gratitude to Lieutenant Michael Priest for his remarkable service and unwavering dedication. His leadership, mentorship, and passion for fire suppression and prevention have left a lasting imprint on the department and the community.

As he embarks on a well-earned retirement, we wish Lt. Priest all the best in the years ahead. He will be greatly missed but always remembered with admiration and respect.
