Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) Explorer Post 469 proudly represented the department at the inaugural Cadet Combat Challenge held July 11–12, 2025, in Marietta, GA. Competing against Fire Explorers and Fire Cadets from across Georgia and Florida, the CCFES team showcased their skills, determination, and teamwork—ultimately earning 3rd Place in the weekend’s signature Cadet Combat Challenge event.
The Cadet Combat Challenge tested the physical fitness, technical ability, and communication skills of young participants through a series of firefighting-based obstacle courses and drills. Events included hose drags, gear donning, dummy drags, high-rise packs, and more—simulating real-world fireground scenarios that demand quick thinking and peak physical performance.
Explorer Post 469, comprised of high school aged students, trains year-round in preparation for events like this, as well as for their future careers in the fire service. Founded in 2001, the program offers young adults the chance to learn alongside professional firefighters, participate in emergency calls under supervision, and serve their community during public events. The group meets weekly at the CCFES Fire Training Complex and regularly supports department initiatives.
“We couldn’t be more proud of our Explorers,” said Fire Chief Eddie Robinson. “Their performance at the Cadet Combat Challenge reflects not only their hard work and dedication, but also the countless hours poured in by our dedicated advisors. These mentors help shape our Explorers into confident, capable, and service-minded young leaders. They represent the very best of what the fire service stands for—and the future looks bright.”
The Cadet Combat Challenge also served as a valuable networking opportunity, allowing participants to connect with peers from other departments, share best practices, and build camaraderie in a competitive yet supportive environment. For many Explorers, it marked their first time competing in a multi-agency firefighting event.
