Members of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES), along with the Woodstock Fire Department (WFD), responded to a residential structure fire on Gum Creek Circle in the unincorporated area of southern Cherokee County near Woodstock just before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Engine 7 was the first unit to arrive on scene and encountered visible flames and heavy smoke coming from the rear deck of a single-family residence. Firefighters immediately deployed hose lines to attack the fire while simultaneously conducting a thorough primary search of the home to ensure no occupants were inside.
Due to the quick and coordinated response of CCFES and WFD personnel, the fire was brought under control in a short period of time. No injuries were reported, and all residents were safely accounted for.
Cherokee County Fire Investigators responded following extinguishment of the fire. After completing their investigation, the cause was determined to be accidental, originating from a smoker located on the back porch of the residence.
