Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded early Tuesday morning to a residential structure fire on Lewis Road in unincorporated Cherokee County near Canton.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the home fully involved in flames. Crews immediately began an aggressive attack to bring the fire under control while simultaneously tending to residents at the scene. Three individuals were assessed by emergency medical personnel, one was transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition.

Tragically, one family dog died as a result of the fire. Another dog survived.

Fire investigators remain on scene working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.

This marks the second residential structure fire that Cherokee County firefighters have responded to in the past twelve hours.

Cherokee County Fire Chief Eddie Robinson reminds everyone to remain vigilant about fire safety in their homes.

“Working smoke alarms save lives,” said Chief Robinson. “Take a moment today to test your smoke alarms and make sure everyone in your household knows what to do if a fire occurs.”
