Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is now accepting applications for its 2026 Citizens Fire Academy, a comprehensive program designed to strengthen the connection between the department and the community it serves.
The Citizens Fire Academy is a 12-week, hands-on program created for residents, college students, and business owners throughout Cherokee County. The initiative provides participants with a behind-the-scenes look at fire and emergency services operations, while equipping them with critical fire and life safety knowledge to better respond in emergency situations.
“Programs like the Citizens Fire Academy are essential to building strong relationships with our community,” said Fire Chief Eddie Robinson. “By opening our doors and sharing our work, we empower citizens with knowledge while fostering trust and collaboration.”
Participants will engage directly with firefighters and staff from all ranks within the department, gaining insight into daily operations, emergency response strategies, and public safety initiatives. The program includes a mix of limited classroom instruction and lots of hands-on experiences, such as simulated firefighting and EMS scenarios, as well as opportunities to observe life inside a working fire station.
The Citizens Fire Academy is a free, 36-hour program that highlights the many functions of the fire service and supports the department’s mission to aggressively preserve life and property, promote public safety, and foster economic growth in Cherokee County.
