Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to two residential structure fires during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

The first incident occurred on Friday, July 3, in Acworth, Georgia. Upon arrival, firefighters immediately initiated fire suppression efforts and conducted a primary search of the residence. During the search, crews located four cats inside the home. Tragically, all four animals were found deceased. No occupants were home at the time of the fire. Firefighters were able to confine the fire to the room of origin, preventing it from spreading to the remainder of the residence.

The second incident occurred on Saturday, July 4, inside the Lake Arrowhead community. Responding crews encountered a tree blocking the roadway with downed power lines, requiring apparatus to take an alternate route before arriving at the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find the residence heavily involved in fire on both the first and second floors while an adult male remained inside the basement. Crews quickly located the occupant and safely escorted him from the home as other firefighters initiated fire suppression operations. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is grateful that no civilians or firefighters were injured during either incident.
