Firefighters Respond to Apartment Fire at Accent Overlook Apartments

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire at the Accent Overlook Apartments, located off Hospital Road in Canton, shortly before 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

Upon arrival, crews immediately initiated an aggressive fire attack while simultaneously evacuating residents and conducting searches of the building to ensure everyone was safely out. Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control, preventing further extension within the building.

During search operations, firefighters rescued at least one dog from the affected apartment. No injuries have been reported at this time.

As of Saturday at 3:00 p.m., firefighters remain on scene extinguishing hot spots, conducting overhaul operations, and assisting residents by salvaging personal property where possible.

While the official cause has not been determined, several bystanders reported seeing lightning strike the building immediately before the fire was discovered.

The number of residents who will be displaced by the fire has not yet been determined.
