Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) responded this afternoon to a residential structure fire on Hillcrest Ridge in Canton after receiving reports that the home had been struck by lightning.

Callers reported smoke and flames visible from the laundry room moments after the lightning strike. Fire crews arrived quickly and found a two‑story residence with smoke coming from the attic.

Firefighters initiated an aggressive interior fire attack while conducting a simultaneous search for occupants. The fire was rapidly brought under control, preventing further spread throughout the home.

All occupants safely exited the residence prior to firefighters’ arrival, and no injuries were reported.

The CCFES Fire Investigations Team will conduct a full investigation to determine the origin and cause of the fire. At this time, the cause remains undetermined.

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services reminds residents to stay weather‑aware during severe storms and to report any signs of fire or smoke immediately.
