The 2026 Cherokee County Citizen's Fire Academy officially kicked off Thursday evening with a full class of community members eager to learn more about the operations of Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.
The evening began with introductions from members of the department’s command staff, who welcomed participants and shared an overview of their roles within the organization. Fire Chief Kevin Lanier welcomed the class and provided a presentation highlighting the department’s mission, operations, and commitment to serving the community.
Participants also received hands-on experiences, including being fitted for structural firefighting turnout gear and touring the department’s training facility. The evening provided an inside look at the training and equipment required of Cherokee County firefighters.
With the 2026 class officially underway, participants will continue through the Citizens Fire Academy gaining firsthand knowledge and experience with the people, equipment, and services that make up Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.
