Fire Watch Information

Dear tenant,

This building has been placed under a fire watch by the fire marshal or his/her designee for your safety. The fire watch is required to be conducted by the buildings management or designated person(s). Building management shall report the fire watch to the proper fire jurisdiction. 

A fire watch is a temporary measure intended to ensure continuous and systematic surveillance of a building, or portion of the building, by one or more qualified individuals for the purpose of identifying and controlling fire hazards, detecting early signs of fire, activating an alarm and notifying the fire department in the event of a fire.

When a required fire alarm system is out of service or when an automatic fire sprinkler system is out of service, the Fire Marshal’s Office shall be notified, and the building shall be evacuated, or an approved fire watch shall be provided.

We ask you to be extra vigilant in regard to fire during the fire watch period. A few common fire hazards to be watchful for are below.

• Limit potential fire ignition sources, including frayed electrical wires and discarded smoking materials. 
• Ensure flammable liquids are properly stored. 
• Know where the fire extinguishers are located, report any fire extinguisher that appears to be damaged or obstructed. Ensure they are visible, fully charged and operational, and bands that secure the safety pin are intact.
• Limit trash, garbage and excess combustible materials.
• Ensure the exits, stairwells and corridors are clear of any obstructions that would impede emergency movement.
• Report any non-operational illuminated exit signs (electrical or photo-luminescent) to building management.
• Ensure self-closing doors are not blocked or wedged and may close freely.
• Know how to activate the fire alarm system even if it may be not fully operational. Pull the manual pull station if needed. Call 911 from your mobile phone while outside of the building.

City of Woodstock Fire Marshal's Office - 770-926-2302. Jurisdiction includes all of those properties within the Woodstock city limits.
