One Dead, One Missing in Tragic Boat Accident

February 2, 2017

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services responded to a boating accident, just shortly before 1 o'clock this afternoon, on Lake Allatoona. Emergency service personnel were dispatched to the accident scene by boat.

When they arrive on scene, they found a fisherman who had loaded one of the accident victims onto his boat.  The victim, who was 68 years of age, was brought to shore and later taken to Kennestone Hospital.  The victim was conscious and alert and was able to walk to the stretcher once he disembarked from the boat. Members from the Cherokee County Dive Team were dispatched to the accident scene to search for two bodies that were unaccounted for.  At approximately 4PM, dive team members located the body of the 54 year old man that was driving the other boat. The only survivor was fishing with a cousin who hasn't been located at this time.

Dive team members continued their search for the other man but discontinued search operations at 6PM this evening. They will continue the search beginning at 8 o’clock tomorrow morning.

Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Georgia State Patrol helped in the search and rescue effort.
