Fire Damages Front Porch of Home Located on Waleska Street

March 6, 2018

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a structure fire last night at 21 Waleska Street near downtown Canton.

Cherokee County 911 dispatched the call just shortly before 7 o’clock. Rescue 9 and Engine 9 were the first to arrive on the scene to find flames coming from the front porch of the structure. According to Cherokee County Fire Investigator, Shane Daniel, “The fire appeared to be accidental due to smoking materials being discarded in a plastic flower pot.” The fire was brought under control in less than an hour later.

Residents inside the house included 7 adults and a 7 month old child who all escaped without injury. The front porch and the attic above the porch received severe damage from the fire. A bedroom inside the home also received some smoke, fire and water damage, too

Both lanes of Waleska Street going into downtown Canton were blocked until the operation was complete. It was later reopened around 9:40 yesterday evening.
