Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services honored soldiers who will be deployed to Afghanistan in late December today during an event that was held at the Canton National Guard Armory.
Eighty-three Canton based members of Bravo Troop of the 1-108th Calvary Squadron, which is based in Calhoun, enjoyed a meal with their families before leaving this afternoon at 1 o’clock for Fort Stewart near Savannah for a month of training. Flags were placed along the highway and several people stood and waved as the soldiers passed by today.
Cherokee County firefighters were on hand to give out firefighter helmets to the children and as the soldiers left the armory for the trip south, numerous firefighters staged with their equipment on each overpass on I-575 from Canton to the Cobb County line. A large flag was also hoisted between two ladder trucks for the motor coaches carrying the soldiers to go through.
Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services give our thanks and offer our prayers to these brave men and women as they make their journey overseas. We also offer our prayers to the families of these soldiers, during this time of separation from their loved ones.
