Brush Fire Shuts Down Portion of I-575

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire and Rescue responded to a brush fire around 2:45 this afternoon on the northbound side of I-575 about a quarter of a mile north of Sixes Road.

According to Cherokee County Fire Captain, Marc Liscio, approximately 200 yards of brush was burned by the fire. Firefighters arrived on the scene and quickly shut down both northbound lanes of I-575. One lane of the highway was eventually opened and both lanes of the highway were back open by 3:20 once the fire was extinguished.

There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
