Late Afternoon Fire Causes Significant Damage to Home Near Waleska

Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services responded to a late afternoon structure fire at 724 Mitchell Road, located off Highway 108, in Waleska, Georgia.

Cherokee County 911 dispatched firefighters to the scene just shortly after 5:30 yesterday afternoon. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a one-story home that was 75 percent involved.  The homeowners, Adam and Alisha Kilgore and their five children (ages 3-17), were able to escape without injury.  The Kilgore’s 7 year old daughter discovered the fire and notified the parents who were outside at the time.

According to Cherokee County Fire Investigator Cheri Collett, it appeared that the fire originated in the laundry room.  The fire caused significant damage to the structure and to all the contents as well.

The American Red Cross was notified to assist the family and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.  The Pickens County Fire Department also responded to the assist with the call.
